I am writing this letter on behalf of Ontario Deaf Sports Association Inc (ODSA), which represents over 700 members of the Deaf community in all of Ontario. ODSA fully supports the efforts of Nancy Barker, Gary Malkowski and Scott Simser in their quest for equal access in the movie theatres.
We agree with 100% captioning for all movies to allow Deaf and Hard of Hearing people to have equal rights and access in choosing which movie they would like to see.
Here at ODSA we promote sports and recreation to the deaf community all over Ontario. At these events people have the chance to participate in sports as well as a chance to socialize with other Deaf people. It is widely common for people to talk about the latest news and movies that have just been released. With the support of 100% captioning in movies everywhere, deaf individuals will have the opportunity to keep up with the latest information when discussing new releases or blockbuster movies that they have seen.
We hope that the tribunal will listen to these complaints and act on them in ways that will benefit everyone in the deaf community all across Ontario.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at the above address.
Thank you,
Rohan Smith
ODSA President
