Dear Mr. Malkowski:

We have been following with great interest your attempt to bring about full accessibility to deaf and hard-of-hearing movie-goers in Canada. Both personally and professionally, we fully support your cause.

My company, Cinetyp, Inc., in Hollywood has been the premier supplier of open-captioned films for over 20 years. In collaboration with Insight Cinema (previously Tripod Captioned Films), we have laser-captioned over 500 features. Due to our working with all the major studios, thousands of prints with captions supplied by Cinetyp have played in theaters all over the United States and other English speaking countries.

It is of utmost importance to note that our laser-captioned films are truly open-captioned. Laser open captions differ from the DTS-CSS system in that they are etched into each print so that they can be projected in any venue. Unlike both DTS-CSS and RearWindow, no special equipment is required for the viewer; no costly installations are required for the exhibitor. There are absolutely no limitations to running a laser-captioned print.

We hope you will keep this distinction in mind as you continue your quest for full accessibility.

Regards,

John H. Bell
President & CEO
