MY NAME IS ALEX BRILL. I AM PROFOUNDLY DEAF DEPENDS ON CAPTIONING FROM EVERYTHING EVEN E-MAIL. I SUPPORT THIS SITUATION BECAUSE I IS REALLY FRUSTRATED BY LACK OF CAPTIONING MOVIES FROM DOWNTOWN THEATRES OR MALL THEATRES DO NOT PROVIDE EVERYTHING FROM EVERY SHOW DUE A LIMITED PRODUCTION CAPTIONING MATERIALS IN TORONTO. MY FORMER HOMETOWN, SUDBURY, ONT NEVER ADVERTISE ABOUT CAPTIONING MOVIES WHILE ONLY ONE THEATRE IS PROVIDING CAPTIONING THEREFORE DEAF COMMUNITY NEED TO KNOW AND HOW WE GET INFORMATION DUE LACK OF ADVERTISEMENTS. ONLY ONE WAY WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR NEW DVD OR VHS COMING UP TO SELL OR RENT EVEN PAY TV WILL SHOW LATER. I DON'T THINK IT IS FAIR TO THE HEARING PEOPLE HAVING WATCHING MOVIES WITH SOUNDS,EH

I am between hard of hearing and deaf. I often find movies that many of the actors/actress whisper and I can't hear what they are saying or there is a background sound in the movie or they speak to fast or have an accent. It would be great to have close captions or captioning for the theatres. We currently rent movies at home as it's the only thing that has close captions. We love to get out once in a while. Not only for us but also for my deaf friends. I sometimes interpret by using ASL, the movies for them and then I miss half the movie myself by interpreting and not watching the whole film myself. Please put captioning in the movie theatres.
Thank you.

I too rely on RWC in order to enjoy movies in theatres. I have had a couple of bad experiences with theatres that I had to leave and request a refund simply because care had not been taken to assure that the caps were operational before the movie began.
I am all for the expanding of RWC services and improved awarness of the needs of deaf and HOH people. However I do stop short of 'demanding' that all theatres be equiped with RWC. I am not so sure that I would like to see a small family owned theatre put out of business to meet such demands. To be sure, the current situation is woefully inadequate.

We need a closed caption on TV or Satilite or Movie Theatres for our need to know what are they talking about. Example if there is an emerency and all the hearing people got all prepare to do like get out of town (ex: hurriance) and where is deaf people to know what s going on because some of news do not provide completely closed captioned. Mostly in the News always cut off the closed captioned and do not tell in full comments. Sheri (Niagara Falls, Ontario)

I support the idea of having closed captioning on movies. It is a terrific idea, and I wonder why it has not been done before.
It can be had on the television so why not movies

Hi Wanda here. Yes I one hundred percent support that we of course WANT to have captioned movies. It is super great idea.
I am a deaf culturally woman. I am very proud to be the deaf mother of two non-deaf daughters. I would love to spend time with my daughters at a movie theatre. I am tired of non-deaf people looking at us and pitying at us that we simply do not HEAR WHAT the movie at a theatre. It deeply hurts my daughters' feelings knowing they have a smart mother who really wants to be involved in non-hearing world. I can imagine how other people, such as hard of hearing, or deafened, feel. And I believe there are more and more 'invisible' lonely people they are not proud to be hard of hearing or deafened. We can imagine if we open up caption movie for ANYONE, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, then we , Society, everyone will feel natural human being. AND much more reasons why we WANT close caption is that it can stimulate deaf, hard of hearing, deafend, ESL, even for some non hearing people for reading/writing skills. The movies started in 1920's ?... I am not sure. We are patiently waiting and waiting for close caption movie theatres and we same time know that we are very behind. Even there are almost all foreign movies that have subtiles for a long time. Now it is time for us to feel ALIVE.

It would be great to have CC at the movies. I am Deaf and have three HH children. My oldest son always wants to go to the theatre but I told him it is not worthwhile for me to pay a lot of money with no CC and then not understand the movie.
If they set up CC movies, it will be good investment as the Deaf Community would go more often.
Honestly, the last time I went to the movies was in 1997. Since then, I have not bothered to go due to no CC and not enjoying the movie without CC. If they have CC movies, it would be great to go together with the entire family to watch.

I am in agreement, good idea. Because I would love to go to the movies some day. I want to see Harry Potter #4. I would like to see open captioning like with T.V, Videotape, DVD.

Hi there, I'd like to express my interest in movie theatres displaying captioned movies... I am an avid movie fan and it is tough for me not to go to the movies, waiting for the movies to come out on video when I could have gone to the movies and watch them in a big screen with big pop, a big bag of popcorn and the incredible vibrating sound system that lifts me off the seat... Please do include closed captioning in the movies at theatres, thank you very much.

Hi,
I would love to spend my time with my boys at movie theatres. but this is very difficult at times when there are only limited dates or limited movie theatres providing captioning.
I would love to see improvements to make captioning available at all theatres and at all times.

Hello,
Of course we support captioning of movies. My husband and I are deaf, and we are frustrated that movie theatres don't provide closed captioning.
WHY?? We love to go out to socialize and I always bring my two daughters who are hearing. But when I take them with me they enjoy themselves, but are concerned for me. My kids always ask me, why isn't the movie closed captioned?
I explain to them about what my rights are now. It is not fair for the deaf who cannot have their social events at movie theatres.
Closed- Captioning is very important to them, to read the language to help them improve their English, and to enjoy their time socially with their deaf parents.
