CAPTION MOVIES NOW
Welcome to the Caption Movies Now Coalition. We are seeking your support in an important campaign to have movie theatre companies across Canada show captioning on their films.
Captions can be shown either privately to movie-goers who need such captions to understand the movies, or can be shown to all in the audience.
The deaf and hard of hearing comprise an estimated 25% of Canadian society. Immigrants comprise 18% of Canadian society and would benefit from reading captions. Senior citizens comprise 13% of Canadian society. This includes your friends and neighbors who may be deaf or hard of hearing. Your grandparents may have lost some of their hearing and no longer can enjoy movies the way they used to, even with assistive listening devices. Immigrants with English or French as a second language learn very quickly from reading the captions.
We require donations in a massive campaign to convince movie theatre companies to be our partners, as they have already said that they will not provide 100% access to all these important people in Canadian society.

Objective:
The Caption Movies Now Coalition (CMNC) demands that all movies be distributed, as of the date of release, with captions that meet professional standards of readability and accuracy. Through this website, the CMNC intends to support the deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals in Canada to obtain equitable access to movies shown in theatres in their own neighborhood, including first-run movie theatres.
Captioning Movies:
Movies can be captioned in two ways. With rear-view (closed) captioning, the movie's subtitles are shown on a small panel inserted into the cup holder at a person's seat. With open captioning, the movie's subtitles are projected directly onto the screen, and can be seen by the entire audience.
